Sigh. Years and years of drinking concoctions that taste like witches brew stewed with newts, looking to find the best juicing recipes for detox, cleanse and weight loss – and all I met with was failure, heartburn and sometimes puking into my toilet. What was the ultimate juice cleanse for weight loss?
Most detoxers (ugh, I hate that word) seem to employ a rule of thumb:
>> The more disgusting it is, the more good it does to your body.
Through trial and failure, and my humbling journey of losing my stomach fat, bloat and crankiness, I’ve discovered that some of the healthiest smoothies and juices I’ve had were absolutely delicious. I think people run away with the idea that a detox or cleanse has to be something of a self-punishment for eating junk – and should taste absolutely horrible. Chin up divas – you can have your cake and eat it too.
I’ve mentioned the story a few times on my blog, but essentially when I wind back the clock to a couple of years back, I found out that I felt bloated, gassy and cranky all the time. ALL the friggin time!! I thought it stemmed from my soul crushing 9-9 job – but turns out there was something a little more frightening under the hood – my hormones were broken.
And what did I expect? 2 years of stuffing pizza and sugary doughnuts into my mouth had led to me to become a cranky overweight …um… witch. I snapped at people, drank 7 cups of coffee a day to kickstart my brain and was a completely unpleasant person to be around. I didn’t have the best juicing recipes for detox or juice cleanse for detox that I have now. I almost ruined the most important relationship of my life with Dave – we stretched to breaking point sooo many times. Shoutout to you sweetie!
BTW, if you think that was the only effect on my personality – that being mean and irritable was the only part of me that surface – guess again.
At night, when I used to unwind with my daily glass(es) of wine – sometimes those emotions burst through. Tears, depression, anxiety and helplessness – all came rushing through and I was almost forced to take drastic actions (that I’m not going to talk about) that would have been the end of my life as I knew it.
But when I found and and immersed myself into the detox and cleanse culture and figured out that your mood and energy is the sum of the parts of what you put into your body – I realized I had been going about this the completely wrong way.
I learned why the human body simply isn’t conditioned to handle some kinds of food – sugar, gluten and more. The more of this crap you pump into your body – the more ill-being manifests inside you.
I literally experimented with 500+ recipes at that point – juices, smoothies, essences, and wheatgrass shots. Out of that, I would say that maybe 5% are the real deal. The rest will either make you puke, or worsen your body’s toxification. But some are simply the best juicing recipes for detox.
20 of those recipes, surprisingly, came from the same source: a tiny recipe book called The Magic Of Juicing. I found a great juice cleanse for weight loss!
TBH, The Magic Of Juicing was an impulse buy – their cute-cheesy newsletter made me smile and Georgia Nunn looked like a kindred spirit. Plus it was dirt cheap so I just bought it, expecting to rot away in my archives of old recipes that I haven’t tasted.
But I followed 1 recipe from her book, one of the basic dual recipes. Mm. Not bad. Next day, I made another one – for detox. Surprise, surprise! Another success – delicious, and felt like a kick to the liver. I was chirpy that whole day.
Now, there are over 50 recipes in that book – but I identified 19 that I absolutely loved – I had more hits than misses – and that was saying something. The Magic Of Juicing was legit 🙂
The ones that aren’t on the book are all detailed elsewhere on the site.
I’d like to give out the recipe, but I don’t think Georgia would appreciate that – Just head over to her website right now and grab the recipe book for seven or eight bucks, last time I checked the price.
I’m not chuffed too honestly about the “bonus eBooks” – I haven’t even had a look at them in fact. I just wanted the recipes – which I’m super happy with – and worth the price.
