I get it. We’ve all been there. We’ve all woken up gassy, bloated and cranky some day and realized that there’s something deeper at work here and probably typed “best way to detox” into Google at some point or another.
Boom! 500 pages worth of hype, BS, marketing drama and “detox divas” manifesting their way to health. Oh, and if you dig deeper, you probably might find websites that completely dismiss cleanse and detox as hokum and self-delusion.
Well, it might be hokum, and self-delusion. Or it could be more. What matters for me, personally, at the end of the day?
This shit works, sister.
Ever since I quit my high flyer New York job and make active steps to reduce my stress and introduced green juices, green veggie smoothies and detox recipes into my life periodically, all I know is that I can’t remember my last panic attack. I can’t remember my last bout of depression. I can’t remember feeling cranky all the frigging time & I can’t remember feeling like a fat turkey in the morning. So, detoxing and cleansing my body has, most definitely, worked for me. And it’s worked for the hundreds of people who’ve emailed me.
That, or detox juices are powerful amnesia inducing agents? I can’t remember.
The problem that arises once you’ve made a decision to detox is – information overload!
I just wanted to get rid of my bad moods, and boost my energy levels – I did NOT anticipate having to wade through hundreds and hundreds of BS articles on detox, to call out gurus and $7000 master cleanse bootcamps!
I just needed someone to guide me already!
- Here’s WHAT you need to drink –
- Here’s WHEN you need to drink it –
- Here’s HOW to make this at home!
I think that just condensing almost 6 months worth of trial and error into the 3 steps above was more stressful than 48 hour deadlines in my New York workplace.
Best Way To Detox?
Without further ado – here is the absolutely best way to detox that I’ve discovered – and be prepared to be surprised, it’s not just wheatgrass shots in the morning:
The first step, of course, is information. You need to find out WHAT is detox, WHY you need it – will it work for you? Does it resonate with your belief system?
It’s highly like you’re currently in this phase right now – and looking for information that will help catapult you into the next phase. It may even be possible that you have given detox and cleanse a shot, but haven’t really been satisfied with the results. That IS possible! That was literally 3 months of my life where I doubted cleanse completely.
No matter. Power through it!
Find a system that works for you – read my blog. Read nutritional material – buy detox and cleanse books off Amazon – it doesn’t matter. Usually, packaged systems work effectively as well – I followed Total Wellness Cleanse when I started off and that’s really the only program that worked for me – until I got healthy and educated enough to start to improvise.
Process is what happens when you move on from the information phase, and understand – ok, I know enough – now – time to start!
Here’s where you need to buy the juicer, buy the blender, and make multiple trips per week to the organic market for your kale, spinach, carrots and ginger and about 7000 other ingredients.
Here’s where you need to build a daily ritual. Here’s when you set alarms on your smartphone to remind you at certain times that your smoothie is due. Here’s where you start your food journal and your detox calendar. It’s one of the best paths on the best way to detox.
You diligently track your body fat, your body weight, chart your energy levels (in the morning, after lunch, in the evening, and when you go to bed) and many other tiny annoying things that ultimately determine whether you will actually be successful or not.
Again – you have a ton of resources available for you. Read my blog – read a book – buy a system.
But what’s important is that you have pick a system and STICK TO IT! For example, I decided when I bought TWC that I would stick with it for 3 months no matter what and do everything that they told me. And guess what happened when I stopped obsessing over knowledge and the new shiny object and the promising new program?
I lost weight.
Boom. As simple as that. Pick whatever you want – and then blindly follow the program (as long as its legit of course!).
This is NOT something that I anticipated and failed terribly. Here’s is the simple fact – your mind rejects change. It wants to lounge in front of Netflix and eat a pizza. It can’t process this healthy (sometimes not so tasty!) juice and smoothie diet and will do everything in its power to kick you off course.
Here’s where mental willpower comes into place. Here’s where your daily rituals will triumph over laziness. Your daily doses of motivation on websites will conquer depression and the “this isn’t working for me!” boohoo voice. This is where the daily emails coming into your inbox from TWC telling you exactly WHAT to drink and WHEN to drink it will overpower the “I don’t know what to do!” voice.
Thankfully, I had my husband and friends pushing me towards health. Add to that the fact that I had wagered big money on losing weight (not recommended for everyone!) and my daily doses of inspiration and food plans from the TWC system, I found that I was able to carry on even if I slipped up and ate a box of doughnuts (I still feel bad about that one 🙁 )
So, in the end…
The best way to detox is more of a mental battle than a physical one. You need to commit yourself to getting out of your rut – to get a body that you love and are comfortable with. And it’s going to involve a certain amount of awkwardness and discomfort – there is no way around that. So sign up for my blog – and if you are someone (like me) who likes to take away the guesswork and just have the exact steps you need, handed to you on a silver platter, that you can follow on a day to day basis – click here to have a look at TWC – it might the last detox program you ever buy.
